No, if there is an update on Mod version you dont need to redownload data you can just copy data from original mlbb to virtual here how to do it.

In other hands when there is content update from mlbb its will automatically download resource inside virtual except for major update on original mlbb apk you need to manually update from playstore and reclone mlbb

Yes its safe to use you can unlock all skins + in-game effect such as battle emot, recall, battlefield, etc, but it's only works in your device that mean enemy cant see your skins it works like skin injector. Read more info here
